Liberty Tree Tavern Dinner Review [2025 Gluten Free & Food Allergy Options]

*This gluten free dining experience took place in November 2025. It includes information about dairy free options, as well as fish/shellfish, peanut/tree nut, chicken/turkey & cabbage allergies.

Dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern

Liberty Tree Tavern, located in the Magic Kingdom, is a table service restaurant that serves Thanksgiving style meals year-round. Over the years, it has become a tradition for us to eat at Liberty Tree a few weeks before Thanksgiving as a way to celebrate the holiday season. And, 2025 is no exception. This visit highlights our yearly tradition and updates to the menu for this year.

Atmosphere

Liberty Tree Tavern holds a lot of Disney history and nostalgia. In fact, has been around as long as Walt Disney World! It opened with the opening of the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971. It’s changed a lot over the years, including menu changes and style changes. I actually remember going there when it was a character meal where Minnie & Mickey were dressed up in colonial outfits.

Because Liberty Tree Tavern has been around for a long time, you’ll find that it is perfectly themed to Liberty Square. The exterior hasn’t changed in the entire time that I’ve been going there (over 2 decades), and you’ll feel like you stepped back in time when you visit this restaurant.

In fact, the whole lobby feels like a colonial time warp. The decor is more or less the same as it has been — with touches that represent ye olden days. The lobby has a fireplaces and many of the details you might expect from an colonial inn.

One detail that I do miss is that Liberty Tree Tavern used to have holiday decor in the restaurant and a Christmas tree decorated with oranges and other more natural ornaments. Unfortunately, you won’t see that during the holiday season anymore, though I’m glad they do decorate the outside still.

Liberty Tree Tavern Tables and Decor

Liberty Tree Tavern has 6 distinct rooms that celebrate famous American figures including:

  • Benjamin Franklin

  • Thomas Jefferson

  • John Paul Jones

  • Paul Revere

  • Betsy Ross

  • George Washington

On this visit, we were seated in the Paul Revere room, which is where we seated the last few years that we have dined here.

This room has lots of unique touches, and we do recommend that you take a look around the restaurant to see the themes of the other rooms too.

The Food

Of course, we’re always most excited about the food at Liberty Tree Tavern. We love that we can get gluten free & allergy-friendly options that are honestly hard to find when it comes to Thanksgiving style food.

Liberty Tree Tavern Allergy Menu and Table Placement

The restaurant does have an allergy-friendly menu, and you can also speak directly to a chef if you have questions or want to discuss options. We spoke to the chef on this visit, especially to discuss Brandon’s allergies, due to hidden chicken often found in the options at this restaurant. The chef was very helpful and made the ordering process very easy.

Liberty Tree Tavern Allergy-Friendly Rolls

Up first, we were brought Bloomfield Farms brand allergy-friendly rolls topped with garlic butter and Declaration Salad. Both were gluten free and contained dairy, but they can be easily modified. For the rolls, they offer a vegan garlic butter (which is also very good!) and the salad only needs to have the cheese removed to be dairy free.

We both agree that the rolls are a great starter, and we really love how the restaurant plusses these up with a garlic butter. We love these and hope they don’t change them!

We also both love the Declaration Salad. It includes mixed Greens, Apples, Cranberries, and Cheese tossed with a House-made Honey Shallot Dressing. It is marked gluten free & safe for Egg, Fish/Shellfish, Peanut/Tree Nut, Sesame, and Soy Allergies.

We love the combination of textures and flavors in this salad. It’s crisp and fresh, and the salad dressing is light and bright. It’s a perfect start to a what is a very heavy meal.

Gluten Free Patriot's Platter at Liberty Tree Tavern

Because we both have different special dietary needs, the chef brought us each our own platter for our meal rather than having us share items. We prefer this too, as it means there are no worries about accidental cross-contamination.

For my gluten free option, I got a platter that contained:

  • Roasted Turkey

Marked GF & safe for Egg, Fish/Shellfish, Peanut/Tree Nut, Sesame, and Soy Allergies

  • Smoked Pork Loin

Marked GF & safe for Egg, Fish/Shellfish, Peanut/Tree Nut, Sesame, and Soy Allergies

  • Pot Roast

Marked GF & safe for Egg, Fish/Shellfish, Milk, Peanut/Tree Nut, and Sesame Allergies

  • Mashed Potatoes *This version contained dairy

Marked GF & safe for Egg, Fish/Shellfish, Milk, Peanut/Tree Nut, Sesame, and Soy Allergies

  • Seasonal Vegetables

Marked GF & Egg, Fish/Shellfish, Milk, Peanut/Tree Nut, Sesame, and Soy Allergies

  • Herbed Rice Bread Stuffing

Marked GF & Egg, Fish/Shellfish, Milk, Peanut/Tree Nut, Sesame, and Soy Allergies

  • House-made Gravy

Marked GF & safe for Egg, Fish/Shellfish, Peanut/Tree Nut, and Sesame Allergies

  • Cranberry Orange Sauce/Jam - Not on menu but is GFDF

  • GF Mac & Cheese - Not on menu but available upon request. No DF option is available.

As usual, I really enjoyed this meal. The turkey was actually very good this year (it’s hit or miss and sometimes very dry), and some of the staples like the green beans, stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy were all solid.

This year’s menu updates includes a revamp of the pot roast, which is more of a shredded style now and the smoked pork loin is now more like a ham loaf. The pot roast was good, though I think we both preferred the old version. The pork was just ok. I may be an outlier, but I prefer the version that they have been serving for a while. Brandon actually liked that version too, and he will not touch the one that resembles ham.

The only big disappointment this year was the mac & cheese. The GF version was not very good and very congealed and very bland. Overall though, I really enjoyed this meal, and it satisfied my Thanksgiving food cravings.

Brandon’s entree was very similar to mine. He could not have the gravy, stuffing, or turkey due to his turkey and chicken allergies. However, he still really enjoyed this dinner. He was able to get gluten filled mac & cheese, which he really loved too.

Plant Based Entree from Liberty Tree Tavern

The chef also offered to bring us the plant-based entree when we asked if we could get the vegan meatloaf. We liked this a lot last year, so we were excited to try it again. With this, we were given the Revolutionary Plant-based Meatloaf entree which included DF mashed potatoes & green beans. It was marked gluten free & safe for Egg, Fish/Shellfish, Milk, Peanut/Tree Nut, and Sesame Allergies.

We really liked the meatloaf (despite it being slightly burnt). The flavor is great, and we love this as a plant-based option. But, the real winner was the dairy free mashed potatoes. They are made now with extra virgin olive oil & salt and are SO delicious. We both thought they were better than the dairy filled mashed potatoes. If you’re GFDF, you’re in for a treat with these potatoes.

Liberty Tree Tavern Plant-Based and Gluten Free Apple Cake

By the time dessert came, we were both so full but had to try to updated Plant-based Johnny Appleseed's Warm Apple Cake. It now includes Apple Compote, Cinnamon Streusel, and Tofutti Non-Dairy Ice Cream. It is marked gluten free & safe for Egg, Fish/Shellfish, Milk, Peanut, and Sesame Allergies.

Although we both liked the previous version, we also really enjoyed this new version too. It had a nice variation of textures and the apple compote was very nice. It is very cinnamon forward, so if you’re not a big cinnamon fan, proceed with caution. The non-dairy ice cream on top was perfect to add and smooth out some of that cinnamon flavor too.

Overall

We absolutely enjoyed our meal. As a yearly tradition, we both look forward to eating dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern during the holiday season. The food has been consistently good and plentiful for our special dietary needs. We really love that the chefs continue to ensure that regardless of your special diet, you can still enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving style meal. We can’t wait for another year of this foodie tradition in 2026 and can highly recommend dining at Liberty Tree Tavern any time of year.
