Boma Breakfast Review [2025 Gluten Free & Food Allergy Options]

This gluten free dining experience took place in October 2025. It includes information about dairy free options, as well as fish/shellfish, peanut/tree nut, chicken/turkey & cabbage allergies.

Breakfast at Boma: Flavors of Africa

Boma: Flavors of Africa is a table service restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge that is an iconic Disney restaurant. It serves both breakfast and dinner with all-you-care-to-enjoy style options inspired by African flavors. It’s truly one of our favorite breakfast spots at Disney. We love everything about the gluten free and food allergy-friendly options and the vibe of Boma. On this visit, I had breakfast with my friend Christy from Pack Your Pixie Dust.

Atmosphere

From the moment you enter Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, you’ll feel transported to Africa — and Boma as one of the resort’s flagship restaurants is no different.

Boma Sign

From above, you’ll see that the restaurant looks like it’s covered in thatched roofs. That’s because the word “Boma” means enclosure. The Imagineers really took the theming to the next level here with the theming and design.

That theming is also felt inside the restaurant. Mix match heavy wooden chairs and decorated tables make for a unique and inviting setting for a meal. I especially love sitting in the back of the restaurant near the windows where you will have views of outside pool area filled with lots of greenery.

The Food

In addition to the unique theming, the food at Boma is also unique. Approachable but with an African twist. Breakfast is probably my favorite meal, but you can’t go wrong with breakfast or dinner. On this visit for breakfast, we were given an allergen guide.

Boma Allergen Guide

The guide provides information about the top 9 common allergens and dishes served on the buffet. If you are comfortable with the guide, you can use it to navigate the buffet and your special dietary needs. However, you can also ask to speak with a chef directly and ask for items to be brought to you directly from the kitchen.

As celiacs, both Christy and I do not feel comfortable eating from the buffet, so we asked to talk to a chef and to get our items from the kitchen. The chef was so helpful on our visit and answered our questions about new or updated menu items. She was also very willing to bring us items from the kitchen. She did note that it might take a bit, but that she would bring us dishes when they were done, so we could enjoy eating sooner.

Boma Buffet Plate

To start, we each got our own plate of that included some breakfast meats, vegetables, and pastries. On mine, I got Bacon, Sausage, Carved Turkey, Carved Ham, Grilled Asparagus, Boma Mustard, an Allergy-Friendly Mickey Waffle & a GF donut. All of these dishes were gluten free & dairy free with no modifications needed.

The grilled asparagus is one of my favorites at Boma followed closely by the carved turkey & carved ham. Don’t miss out on the Boma Mustard which is spicy and pungent but so flavorful. It packs a punch! It wasn’t always GF, but it is now and such a good condiment.

Christy and I also asked for a large bowl of Afritude Tots which can be made gluten free & dairy free. They are not marked that way on the allergen guide, but they can be if you ask. They do need to use a dedicated fryer in the kitchen, as the ones on the buffet are cross-contaminated.

And as fellow potato lovers, we both agree these are a must get. The spice blend on the tots and the consistent frying really make these tots. Ask for a big bowl like us. You will not regret it!

I also got a custom omelet. The chef did recommend that we get these from the kitchen. The restaurant sometimes has individual omelet plates at the buffet, but she noted there would be a higher risk of cross-contamination.

My omelet was ham & cheese which is gluten free but does contain dairy. If you’re dairy free, be sure to ask about DF cheese options, which the restaurant usually has on hand or can get from The Mara next door. This was a very good omelet. No complaints. Just a solid option.

Not shown here were Christy’s scrambled eggs with chives & goat cheese. She absolutely loved these. I’m not a big goat cheese fan, so it’s a skip from me. But, I do love the scrambled eggs with spinach, tomato, and feta which you can get on alternating days.

Boma GF Breakfast Potatoes

We also got some Boma breakfast potatoes that were gluten free & dairy free and had peppers and onions along with some spice seasonings. While we both love potatoes, this wasn’t our favorite potato dish. I think I liked it better than Christy, but we both agreed that we’d just go for the tots next time and skip these. But, if you’re a potato lover and want all the potatoes at your breakfast by all means order them!

Boma GF Mickey Waffles

Finally, we wrapped up our meal with Allergy-Friendly Mickey Waffles. Disney currently uses the GF mix from what was Carbon’s Golden Malted Waffle brand now called Golden Waffles. This company manufactures the Mickey waffle makers and also produces waffle mixes.

None of us have been a fan of this mix, but we have to give the chefs at Boma some props for making these waffles pretty tasty. They told us they didn’t alter the mix, but it was a vast improvement from previous version. Maybe the mix has been updated along with the name. Or pixie dust happened. Either way, we really enjoyed these a ton. If you’re dairy free, be sure to ask for the praline sauce. It’s so rich and decadent. If you can’t have dairy, the 100% pure maple syrup is available too.

Overall

Boma continues to uphold the title of being one of the best breakfast options at Disney World. The flavors, the options & the atmosphere make this a 10 out of 10 every time. We especially appreciate how special diets friendly the menu is. There’s just so much to choose from. Add in some amazing chefs who are able to make Disney magic and safe food for a perfect meal. We highly recommend Boma for breakfast (and also for dinner) and are already dreaming about another visit just for the delicious tots.

Have you been to Boma? What was your experience dining there gluten free or with other special dietary needs?
