Gluten free diners will be excited to hear of another new dessert option at the Walt Disney World Resort. Posted on the Disney Parks Blog on January 16, 2014, it was reported that the table service location Captain’s Grille (located in Disney’s Yacht Club Resort) would include not only new decor but new menu items.
This location is best known for a quiet meal in a cozy atmosphere. Their food is seafood-centric and includes many favorite seafood classics like New England Clam Chowder. Now the restaurant is seeing an updated look, with new tables and chairs, wallpaper, and paint and it’s also seeing an updated menu to reflect the new look and feel of the restaurant.
Some of the new menu highlights include:
- Buttermilk-fried rock shrimp with chipotle remoulade, citrus cream, and chilled cucumber salad
- Chef’s “vegetarian inspiration” – right now its sweet potato tortellini with cranberry relish, spice almonds and brown butter rosemary beurre blanc
- New England clam chowder served with bacon and chive biscuits
While it’s hard to know if any of these can be made gluten free or dairy free, there is one new gluten free option that is sure to please guests dining at Captain’s Grill:
- Gluten-free angel food cake with berry compote and almond croutons, served with lavender-infused panna cotta.
This sounds like a hands down winner and something very unique to the restaurant. As many of us special diets diners can attest to, dessert can be one of the most difficult components to a meal. Seeing this new and interesting dessert option sounds fantastic. And my hope is that the angel food cake itself is gluten free and dairy free and can easily have the lavender-infused panna cotta (likely not dairy free) removed for those who want a gluten free and dairy free dessert. This dessert is also said to be sugar free.
Only time will tell what new gluten free and special diets options become available, but this is great news for special diets diners. And the Captain’s Grille team has stated in the Disney Parks Blog post that there will be even more changes in 2014. Can’t wait to hear all the news!
