*This post contains the official statement that Babycakes NYC released on Twitter 3/7/2014.
Well folks, it looks like the Downtown Disney (soon to be Disney Springs) construction is causing some closures (some permanent and some temporary) and one of them includes Babycakes NYC. As a much loved gluten free and food allergy friendly dessert option for guests at Disney World, Babycakes NYC is the go-to place on property for cupcakes, cookies, donuts, and more – all free of gluten, dairy, soy, egg, and refined sugar (and the treats are vegan too).
Housed in a building with Pollo Campero & Bodie’s All American Cafe, Babycakes NYC has a kiosk area and a dedicated kitchen separate from the other restaurants. However, this building will be closing shortly with Wednesday, March 19, 2014 being the last day of operation for Pollo Campero, Bodie’s All-American Grill and Babycakes NYC.
Does this mean Babycakes NYC is closing for good? According to Disney Babycakes NYC will continue to provide products to select Walt Disney World Resort food courts & restaurants, so I can’t imagine it means they are going anywhere. What my hope is (and I do not have any confirmation of firm plans) is that the bakery will get its own storefront in Disney Springs. That’s what I would love to see. (I’ll be honest, as of 3/7/2014, I’m thinking this is actually less likely)
Babycakes is a huge asset to the Disney (and Orlando) community and really does provide terrific offerings that so many guests with special dietary needs can enjoy safely. They provide tons of items to various restaurants and food court areas and even the Food Allergy Information Kiosk in the Animal Kingdom, so it seems unlikely that they would be going away for good – especially given that they will still be providing items after the closure to Disney venues.
Babycakes posted through their official Twitter account on 3/7/2014 the following:
“Our last day of operations at the Pollo Campero Restaurant will be 3/19, we plan to continue to provide items to locations in WDW.”
As soon as I know more information, I will be sure to post it here on the blog and through social media!
