BEAUTYCOUNTER Product Review

BEAUTYCOUNTER

When it comes to skincare, I have to admit that I’m pretty sensitive and selective about the products I choose. As someone who suffers from both Crohn’s disease and Celiac disease, I have found that over the years my skin has become much less tolerant to heavily scented and manufactured skincare — so much so, that I rarely wear makeup anymore, and I avoid pretty much any type of commercial lotion or moisturizer.

So, you can imagine when I was planning my recent trip to Disneyland, I had to consider what kind of toiletries I would be using on the trip to California and packing in my bag. Of course, if you’re like me, you get a big kick out of seeing the familiar H20 brand of toiletries offered in Disney resorts. But, did you know that several of their products contain gluten/wheat? I was never more disappointed on a staycation visit to a Disney World resort, when we discovered the newest products, Sea Marine contain gluten/wheat in their shampoo.

So, what’s a girl to do while on a trip?

We weren’t planning on checking bags on our flight, so bringing a ton of toiletries wasn’t necessarily going to be a viable option. That’s when I had a conversation with my friend and blog reader, Heather, who mentioned BEAUTYCOUNTER. I’ve heard a lot of things about BEAUTYCOUNTER, but being a bit apprehensive about skincare products, I’ve never tried them.

We got a chance to catch up, and we talked a lot about the company, its philosophy (including their Never List which highlights ingredients they never use), and of course, the products themselves. And, I got to test out a few things. ‘

Even better? I really liked the products a lot.

BEAUTYCOUNTER

One of the most important things to me is having products that 1. Won’t break my skin out and 2. don’t smell really strongly. Thankfully, as I soon discovered, the products I tried checked off the boxes on both of these. I decided that on my trip to Disneyland, I would bring along the Protect Stick SPF 30 Sunscreen and the Nourishing Skincare Collection sample set (which made the TSA travel requirements for a carry-on). Heather had recommended the skincare, especially since I was traveling to a drier climate compared to the humidity of Orlando.

So, I was armed and ready with skincare products for the trip. How did I fare? Well, I have to say that I was impressed with BEAUTYCOUNTER. The cleanser and exfoliator were my favorite for the skincare — both of which felt great after a sunny day in the parks. But, the real winner for me was the Protect Stick Sunscreen. Both Brandon and I hate having to deal with sunscreen that’s greasy and smelly. And, the BEAUTYCOUNTER version was the total opposite.

The sunscreen went on easily and didn’t feel greasy at all. Plus, it was super portable and super easy to apply. We used it everyday of the trip, and I just popped the stick in my back for re-applications throughout the day. Probably the only thing to remember is that you might need more frequent applications (usually every 80 minutes or so), as natural sunscreen does tend to need applications more often. But, since it was so easy to use and apply (and not at all messy), it worked perfectly. Plus, it didn’t have that typical sunscreen smell, which was even better.

BEAUTYCOUNTER

Overall, I was super impressed by my experience using BEAUTYCOUNTER products. The fact that they are made with clean ingredients and didn’t make my skin break out was hugely important. Even better is that only a couple of the BEAUTYCOUNTER products have ingredients derived from wheat, so those who are gluten free can enjoy almost every product that BEAUTYCOUNTER sells without worrying about gluten issues.

I’m excited to continue to try BEAUTYCOUNTER products, and the Protect Stick Sunscreen is going to be in my bag from now on when I head to a Disney park! Huge thanks to Heather at the Modern Cavemom for providing me with sample products to try.
